Job Summary 

The anesthesia technician will work under the direct supervision of the Lead Anesthesia Technician as well as adjunct supervision of the Chief CRNA, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and Anesthesiologist to insure that each operating room (Main OR/Tower) is checked and prepared for daily use.  Included in this preparation is the stocking of all supplies and  anesthesia carts in accordance with pre-determined par levels prior to the start of each day and following each patient exposure to maintain constant flow of operations pertaining to anesthetic care of the patient.  The anesthesia technician must be able to trouble shoot anesthesia gas machines and monitors used by the anesthesia provider during patient care, be familiar with and provide care and cleaning of difficult airway equipment and transesophageal echocardiography probes, assemble and deliver hemodynamic monitoring devices when and where needed, assemble and deliver vasoactive drug infusion sets when and where appropriate, anticipate needs of the anesthesia provider for all surgical subspecialties, prepare cardiac rooms for patient arrival, assist the anesthesia provider with final placement of specialized hemodyamic monitoring devices into patients undergoing cardiac surgery prior to operative procedure, identify dysfunctional or broken equipment and seek repairs of said equipment from appropriate internal and external sources.  The anesthesia technician must be readily available at all times throughout the work day assisting professional staff during routine and critical situations.  Although unable to administer pharmaceuticals and medications, the anesthesia technician is responsible for delivery of needed pharmaceuticals from the satellite pharmacy to the anesthesia provider whenever necessary.   Contact via standard communication device issued by the department is required throughout the day.  Out of hospital availability with potential for in-house staffing coverage for all hospital observed holidays will be assigned on a rotating basis amongst all technicians.

Job Requirements

High school education or equivalent.  Post secondary education credits in a health related field preferred.  Six month experience in a healthcare setting required.  Certification through Americal Association of Anesthesia Technician preferred.
