Job Description

Job Summary

The Speech-Language Pathologist evaluates and treats patients by physician referral per accepted practice standards.  He/she participates in clinical supervision of SL P students and CFYs.  He/she plans treatment programs and performs therapy procedures to restore function, prevent disability and maximize the potenial and quality of life following disease, injury or surgery.  He/she delegates patients to SLPAs and performs re-evaluations per department policy.  He/she appropriately modifies treatment plans and procedures specific to infancy, toddler, preschool, school age, adolescence, early adult, middle adult and late adult patients, uses appropriate communication techniques for specific age groups and applies knowlege of Growth and Development and the aging process to achieve optimal results.  He/she supervises SLPAs, Rehab Techs and students.  He/she participates in community presentations, staff in-services and other departmental activities as requested by the Occupational Therapy/Speech-Language Pathology Manager or Director of Regional Rehabilitation Services.

Job Requirements

MA/MS in Speech-Language Pathology; certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA or CFY. Eligible for licensure to practice in South Carolina.  Experience in an acute care setting preferred.  Must be able to adjust communication, both verbal and non-verbal, to interact appropriately and effectively with a variety of age groups including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
