Job Description

Patient Financial Services Specialist 
 

POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for all aspects of customer service, walk in patient inquiries and incoming customer phone calls.
Other duties include, but not limited to -
• 
Counseling the customer on their account balance and collecting payments on outstanding account balances.
•  Be able to effectively assist the customer with complex account questions and/research for hospital, physician, home health and hospice services and multiple billing systems. 
•  Account research to insure accurate billing and payment posting. 
• Completing and/or processing patient payments for account posting. 
•   Processing patient letters and other correspondence received in the department for appropriate action.
•  Responsible for assisting vendors and/or practice sites with accounts for resolution
•  Responsible for research on all deceased accounts, monitoring pending probate balances as well as working all probate forms sent by the court.
•  Assist with all follow up requests with our probate attorney and patient representatives.  
•  Responsible for working all bankruptcy accounts by verifying and adjusting accordingly throughout multiple billing systems.
•  Responsible for taking all incoming tax set-off calls in reviewing multiple billing systems and providing assistance with any account questions and/or concerns.  Handles all return mail for our tax letters
•  Responsible for working return mail accounts in attempts to identify a correct address and resolving the account status.
•  Responsible for handling all CRM requests that are routed to billing from MyChart patient inquiries.
•   Responsible for batch Medicaid Eligibility response WQ, reviewing and billing to insurance accordingly.
•  Must be able to complete registration functions such as insurance coverage additions/corrections, demographic information and completing all necessary forms.  
•  Must have knowledge of the revenue cycle from point of service to collections to understand and assist consumers.
•  Exhibit professionalism and excellent customer service at all times
•  Responsible for practicing AIDET in all customer-related encounters
•  Successfully assist all customers with inquiries, follow up on all customer requests and insure good quality customer service and resolution including accounts submitted through the tax setoff program.
• Insure resolution will be obtained for all customer needs/requests
• Responsible for system work queues assigned to our Single Billing Office.
• Other duties as assigned.
 
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Required: High school diploma or equivalency         
Preferred:  Associates Degree

 
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
•   
2 years’ experience in healthcare billing/collections, medical office and/or customer service or 3 Years of customer service related experience
•    Familiar with CPT, HCPCS and ICD10 codes.
•    Good Understanding of insurance remittance and remark codes
•   Excellent customer service skills                        
Preferred:          
•  
3+ years of Customer service experience in a hospital or physician billing setting.
•    Good understanding of insurance explanation of benefits and how it applies to the patient’s accounts. 
•    Experience handling a high volume of calls per day.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES and/or REGISTRATIONS
 
Preferred: Certified Revenue Cycle Associate
